Designed for youth and adults diagnosed with, or suspected to have, a Learning Disability and / or ADHD, between the ages of 19 to 29. This is a nine (9) session individual counseling program that focuses on the socio-emotional effects of LDs and ADHD.

Through different counselling approaches and activities, individuals will be able to gain a better understanding of their self, their diagnosis and accommodations, strengths and needs, coping strategies for stress and anxiety, as well as plan and navigate their next chapter of life. They will also have an opportunity to explore the barriers they face and create an action plan to overcome obstacles or new paths.

This program identifies unique challenges participants face, and work towards developing resiliency, and skills necessary to thrive in their lives to achieve overall well-being.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understanding how your Learning Disability and / or ADHD affects your life.
  • Understanding barriers and creating coping strategies.
  • Understanding interpersonal relationships and developing social skills.
  • Understanding your mental health and developing toolbox of anxiety, stress, and coping strategies that work for you.
  • Building decision-making and advocacy skills to reach your full potential.

How Strategies for Life one-to-one sessions in office/virtual works:

  • The program offers 9 counseling sessions.
  • Each session is 60 minutes long.
  • Sessions are booked on an individual basis according to your schedule Monday to Friday

Participants can focus (up to three) on the following topics:

  • Transitions
  • Financial Literacy and Budgeting
  • Advocacy
  • Social Skills
  • Anxiety and / or Stress Management
  • Learning Strategies
  • Coping Skills and Strategies
  • Mindfulness, Self-Awareness and Understanding

Program is currently subsidized by the Region of York for York Region residents only.

Subsidy Criteria:

  • Must be between the ages 19 to 29 years old.
  • Must have a diagnosis of Learning Disability and / or ADHD.
