Social Skills Program

This program focuses on the social development skills. Our social coaches will work with students on a variety of social skills on a fun and interactive format. This program is facilitated by register social service workers. Our program content is based on the PEERS® curriculum for social skills training.

**First time participants must provide a copy of child’s Psycho-educational Assessment**
Children must have a primary diagnosis of LD and/or ADHD to be eligible.

Program Information

What social and emotional skills will be learned?

  • Interpersonal skills. i.e. communication, listening, friendship skills
  • Cooping with emotions and stress
  • Conflict resolution and problem solving
  • Self advocacy skills
  • Self Esteem
  • Bullying and cyberbullying topics

Who is the program designed for?

This co-ed program is designed for children ages 7 to 12 with a primary diagnosis of a Learning Disability  and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) who may:

  • Avoid social contact
  • Behave immaturely
  • Be shy or timid in groups
  • Frequently fight with peers
  • Display a lack of self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Enjoy meeting other children with LD and/or ADHD

About the Course:

  • 6 week program
  • Participants are divided into age appropriate groups of up to six (6) children.
  • Classes are 1 hour per week
  • Maximum of 6 children per class
  • Accredited group leaders
  • Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter programs

Fees:

$250 for members
$300 for non members

Subsidies and payment plans are available for qualified individuals. Families who have insurance may request information form their provider for coverage under social work services. Apply here for subsidies.

  2. You will be contacted to arrange an intake interview for you and your child.
  3. Based on this intake, we will decide whether or not this program will be beneficial for your child.

There are no guarantees for a spot as participants are placed in groups depending number of registrants, their age and gender.

Girls Connect

 

The Girls Connect Program builds a safe community for girls with LDs and ADHD and it's run simultaneously as the social skills groups.

  • Learning about your IEP and/or accommodations 
  • Self advocacy skills
  • Self Esteem
  • Bullying

The program is designed for girls ages 7 to 12 with a primary diagnosed with a Learning Disability and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) who may:

  • Avoid social contact
  • Behave immaturely
  • Be shy or timid in groups
  • Frequently fight with peers
  • Display a lack of self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Enjoy meeting other children with LD and/or ADHD

 

Groups of girls 13 to 18 would have a girls only group and are formed on demand.
