ADHD Strategies at home

In this presentation Andrea will share with us as an adult with ADHD and a learning specialist working with secondary students, strategies that parents can apply at home to assist their executive function and organizational skills.

Presented by Andrea St. Onge - Learning Specialist, Andrea has been in the education filed for over 18 years, Andrea is currently working in California with students with learning disabilities with a primary focus on ADHD.

 

Transitions to Post-secondary

In order to be successful in school and beyond, children need to demonstrate accountability and learn a variety of academic, social and emotional competencies.  One of the biggest factors in fostering these skills is based on a child’s ability to take responsibility for his or her own actions. This workshop will help parents understand the explicit skills and strategies needed to develop personal accountability skills in children.

Presented by Susan Alcorn Mackay - Susan has been an educator for many years, retiring from Cambrian College where she was the Director of Counselling, Disability Services and the Northern Ontario Assessment and Resource Centre.

 

Advocacy 101

Advocacy 101   This session will address how to be an effective advocate including approaches and strategies to be successful in your role as an advocate for your child.

Presented by Lynn Ziraldo- Lynn past chair of the K to 12 Education Accessibility Standards committee (2018-2022) Lynn's involvement with the Learning Disabilities Association York-Simcoe as well as  provincially and nationally has been over 40+ years. Lynn is past chair and advisor of the Ministers Advisory Council for Special Education in Ontario  She is the chair of the YRDSB Special Education Advisory Committee .
