Schools evaluate students on aptitudes and learning skills that are unfamiliar to their pupils: attention, organization, time management, retention and recall, initiation, and self-regulation.

Skills for the 21st Century
How can students meet the challenges of the 21st century? What do researchers say are the core competencies and life skills required for success in today’s society? This workshop will discuss the expectations of postsecondary life, important preparations for college and university success (test preparation, reading and writing skills, note taking), assistive technology, time management, and scheduling.

Parenting the Child with Executive Function Challenges
Raising a child who has deficits in executive function can be challenging and confusing. Children with ADHD and learning disabilities have average or above average intelligence, so many adults wonder why the basic tasks of turning off the television, getting ready for school, going to bed, or completing standard homework assignments are a challenge.

The Academic Tune-Up: An Individual Assessment
Each school year brings both successes and challenges to children with learning disabilities and ADHD. Students who would like to build on their strengths and address their academic weaknesses will benefit from this one-to-one personalized session with an experienced learning coach.

In 2011, Learning Disabilities Association of York Region will be taking part in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon!

In 2010, 4 000 runners across 125 participating charities in the event raised a total of more than $2.5 million through the event, and we want to take part too!

You don’t have to participate in the marathon to help out. Pass around the information and get your friends, family and neighbours talking. Sponsor our goal, become a volunteer for the day or come out to cheer us on. Either way we’d love to see you there!
